Some stories deserve to be told, celebrated, and passed down to the next generation. The story of Macon’s own J.T. Thomas is certainly one of them!
From helping integrate Lanier Junior High School football in 1965 to becoming the first Black player to appear in a Florida State University varsity football game in 1970, J.T. Thomas helped break barriers and open doors for others.
He went on to become a four-time Super Bowl champion with the Pittsburgh Steelers, and in 2026, he is being honored by the Steelers Hall of Honor!
I have always believed that we must recognize the people from our own communities who have helped make history. Their accomplishments remind our young people that greatness can come from right here in Macon, Georgia!
Join us as we celebrate this hometown trailblazer!
