MGB Inc. – Run-4-Good Project

MGB INC. Partners with Campus Clubs to Target Macon Youth Obesity
Macon, Georgia

Campus Clubs

In October 2014, MGB INC., a public charity based in Macon, GA, partnered with Campus Clubs-Macon, to empower the youth in the Campus Clubs’ after school and summer camp with the education and tools to lead healthy lifestyle and make better choices in regards to fitness and nutrition. The pilot program was funded by a Saucony Foundation, Run-4-Good, $10,000 grant for a period of 12 months.  Campus Clubs is a premier After School program in Macon that serves youth from marginalized, disenfranchised communities.  The present facility, however, does not have a structured health and fitness program, therefore, MGB INC. is privileged to meet the gap as Campus Clubs continues to grow and expand its services.

Kelvin Middleton and Campus Clubs’ Run-4-Life Program Completers

Kelvin Middleton, of MGB INC., and former professional football player for both the United States Football League (USFL) and National Football League (NFL), developed a program that incorporates proven best practices such as NFL Play 60, First Lady Michele Obama’s Lets Move, President Obama’s Fitness Challenge, Georgia’s My Plate; and Georgia’s recent legislation mandating physical education standards to address escalating, epidemic youth obesity in the state.  Each student, in the MGB-Campus Clubs’ Run-4-Good Project, was given a pedometer and training on how to track steps, plan healthy meals and snacks, achieving minimum of 60 minutes of physical activity per day, a brand new pair of running shoes; and, incorporating fun as a motivation.

The 12-month pilot program was utilized by 150 Campus Club students in both the Campus Clubs’ After School and Summer Program. Students, who completed the program successfully, were given a MGB Inc. Run-4-Good tee shirt, a certificate completion from President Obama’s Fitness Challenge, MY Plate. Gov nutritional programs; and, a brand new pair of running shoes provided by the Saucony Foundation. Tunga Crupp, Campus Club-Macon, Program Director, was brought to tears on MGB Inc.’s final day at the completion of the program. Some of children,in the Run-4-Good project, needed shoes and the personal connection with positive male role models, per Crupp. The message and impact that MGB Inc. made in the lives of the youth were invaluable.
